Deputies instill leadership skills to at-risk boys

Children 10 to 13 years old took part this week in the first “Leadership Camp”, sponsored by the Oconee Sheriff’s Office. County deputies had a dual purpose in mind. They wanted the at risk boys to see outdoor attractions and to instill leadership skills. Tuesday’s activities for the 29 boys included a hike along part of the Foothills Trail and a picnic lunch at Stumphouse Tunnel. According to Corp. Charles Mulwee, a school resource officer, the camp is part of the drug mentoring prevention program that Sheriff Mike Crenshaw started last summer. Speaking this week to County Council, Crenshaw lauded the program and invited the council members to attend today’s graduation program for the campers.
