Destructive fire at the end of a dirt road

Smoke in the air south of Walhalla alerted authorities to a fire that consumed a home and a few wooded acres around it. Fire Chief Doug Kelley identified the owners of the log cabin summer home as Grady and Beverly Bell, believed to be Atlanta residents. Walhalla Fire Department received help from nearby departments and other responders and required hours yesterday afternoon to put a stop to a fire that, according to Kelley, may have had its origin in a fire pit below the home. The address was Wildwood Way, about three-quarters of a mile from the Flat Rock Road.
