Dexter: Oconee County shortchanged by state

Whether you are an Oconee Republican, a Democrat, or an Independent, Reg Dexter says you should be concerned that South Carolina fails to fully fund the Local Government Fund. Dexter, the District Five Oconee County councilman, conceded Saturday that most people probably don’t know about the Local Government Fund or understand its importance. The County Council uses the money allocated by state government to help pay the costs of 17 state agencies that serve Oconee County. Dexter blames state lawmakers, including the three-member Oconee Legislative Delegation, and his frequent criticisms have apparently gotten under the lawmakers’ skins. On Saturday at a meeting of the Oconee Democratic Party, Dexter addressed the topic, “Why our tax dollars aren’t coming back to us.”
