Dickey, Price win Cy Young Award

Pitchers R.A. Dickey of the New York Mets and David Price of the Tampa Bay Rays won the Cy Young Award Wednesday, in the National and American Leagues, respectively. Price just beat out Justin Verlander in voting by the Baseball Writers’ Assocation of America, 153 points to 149 points, keeping the Detroit Tigers’ ace from winning two years in a row. Price was 20-5 with a 2.56 ERA. Dickey, the first knuckleballer to win a Cy Young, easily beat out second-place finisher Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers — also last year’s winner — finishing first on 27 of 32 ballots and getting 209 points, 113 more than Kershaw. Dickey had a 20-6 record and 2.73 ERA.
