Disputed $610K payment “encumbered”

Chairman Joel Thrift of the Oconee County Council expressed hope last night that the county and the Joint Regional Sewer Authority can reach an amicable solution to a dispute that threatens sewer expansion in the unincorporated areas of the county. A withheld annual payment of $610 thousand by the county to the sewer authority was a point of discussion during county council’s budget committee meeting last night. County officials say the last payment due to have been sent to the sewer authority is now encumbered money.
