District looks to “exit” Oakway

Without a school in session, Oakway is another place in Oconee County where the school bells once rang.  And, now the policymakers for the county district, are facing what to do with the land and the buildings left behind.  They were given options last night.  Assistant Superintendent Steve Hanvey and Director of Facilities Richard Alexander recommend the district sell everything, with one exception.  They want the district to hold onto a welding building at the rear of the property.  The rest, which includes farm land, can be sold to benefit the district’s finances.  Procurement Director Wayne Putnam said the options include hiring a realtor, hiring an auctioneer, or selling the property to the highest bidder.
