Drought serious, not yet critical

If the forecasts pan out, some parts of lower South Carolina are to receive double digits of rain from the hurricane.  In other parts, such as upstate South Carolina, the situation is a serious lack of rain approaching critical.  Bob Faires, the Seneca utilities director, says the area remains in category drought 2 and customers should be conservative with what they use.  Faires says the deficit is close to one foot of water.  Dry as conditions are, local and area water suppliers will benefit from the changing seasons.  In winter, Faires says, the average customers uses one-half of the water they would use during the summer.
