Duke Energy to transport transformer along SC 130

The movement of a new transformer from its current location at the Newry railroad spur to a storage location at the Oconee Nuclear Plant is planned for Saturday, starting at 8 am. The transport will take place over highway 130 and will take approximately four hours during which the highway will be closed to traffic. Flagmen and officers will be stationed along the route to direct traffic.  And Duke Energy requests drivers take alternate routes.  In the event of bad weather, Sunday is the alternate move date. Duke issued this statement:  “We understand this can increase the difficultly and cause frustration of your normal work activities. We apologize for any inconvenience this move may have created for you. This is a milestone event for our site and sincerely request your patience, understanding and support of our teammates working safely and diligently to move this very important piece of equipment needed for continued safe, reliable electrical generation for unit 1.”
