Duncan: “Liberty lost today.”

Third District Congressman Jeff Duncan voted with the minority as the House of Representatives yesterday defeated an attempt to stop the secret collection of millions of Amercians’ phone records.  The Laurens Republican, on his Facebook page, said, “It’s my sad duty to report that a battle in defense of the Constitution failed on the House floor by a vote of 217-205.  I was proud to take to the House floor in opposition to the NSA’s domestic surveillance program and in support of the Amash Amendment that would have kept the government in check.  My argument during the debate was simple:  it was the 4th Amendment to the United States Constitution…..”  The attempt by Duncan’s Michigan colleague, Justin Amash would have stopped the National Security Agency program.  An exception would have been if the government identified an individual under investigation.  Third District Congressman Jeff Duncan voted with the minority as the House of Representatives yesterday defeated an attempt to stop the secret collection of millions of Americans’ phone records.
