“Economic development project coming to town”

Oconee’s economic development recruiter heralds the coming of a new employer. And it appears, from remarks by Richard Blackwell of the Oconee Economic Alliance, that the new employer from Anderson is going to occupy a former Beacon warehouse building on 123 near 11 and employ 50 workers. Asked about comments attributed to him at a Seneca Rotary Club meeting this morning, Blackwell said, “Economic development project coming to town…..yes but I have no comment at this time.” Members of the audience also heard Blackwell refer to the possibility for a Target store and other potential development on New Spring Church-owned property at highways 123 and 93 near Clemson. But Blackwell later said the Target talk is just a rumor. A spokeswoman for New Spring says her church has contracted with Casto, a national real estate services firm, to develop 45 and a half acres of the church’s 62 and a half acres in Oconee County. The remaining 17 acres are being retained for the construction of New Spring’s permanent Clemson campus.
