EDC meeting may have been the last, as constitueted

This morning’s regular meeting of the Oconee Economic Development Commission may have been its last ever—as currently constituted. It’s likely to depend on how the proposal to merge EDC with the Oconee Alliance fares during next week’s County Council meeting. Just in case, according to County Administrator Scott Moulder, the ordinance creating the EDC will remain on the books—in the event something goes wrong. Yet Richard Blackwell, EDC director, remains confident that the merger is going to pay off in big ways for the county’s chances for greater economic development. “We want the business community engaged, as well, because they are going to feel the benefits when we are successful in filling up these industrial parks and getting companies to expand here,” Blackwell told the EDC meeting.
