Editorial: Manufacturing or tourism? OC can have it all.

In front of Oconee County Council recently, a gentleman from Mountain Rest described county government as wrong-headed to think that it can have it both ways. In place of competing with the likes of Greenville to attract manufacturing, the speaker said Oconee would be far better off to zero-in on its potential to expand local recreation and tourism.

But while Oconee may be a county better known for its rivers and lakes, Richard Blackwell thinks, Oconee can have it both ways. Blackwell, Oconee’s chief industrial recruiter, is saying on 96.3/WGOG NEWS that the county’s stable of industrial manufacturing is an example that an important part of the country’s manufacturing processes takes place right here in Oconee County….and there’s room for more.

We invite you to hear more from Blackwell as he makes his views known here on a “Community Sound Off” that’ll air Sunday, June 30 on 96.3/WGOG.

That’s our view. What’s yours?
