Editorial—Tim Rice is the new (anti) litter man

Congratulations to Corp. Tim Rice of the Oconee Sheriff’s Department on his appointment as the county’s new Environmental Services Officer. Sadly, the volumes of litter make this a big job for Rice. Fortunately, Rice will get help, in the form of prison labor who will be asked to pick up debris, a lot of which is caused by our carelessness.

And it’s good to see that Rice’s boss, Sheriff Mike Crenshaw, is committed to having all of the county’s deputies on alert for litter violations. There’s also an education component to all of this. But we seem to never learn. Why is that?

That’s our view. What’s yours.
