Education leader keynotes Westminster luncheon

South Carolina’s top public education leader told those in a Westminster audience they are fortunate to live in a community that is willing and capable to further the cause of educating its young.  Molly Spearman, the state’s first-term superintendent of education, keynoted Friday’s Apple Festival luncheon.  Spearman congratulated Westminster and Oconee County for having the interest and the financial wherewithal to do what it takes to ensure kids are getting the proper education.  It’s not the case everywhere in the state, she said, making an indirect reference to the public education system in a set of downstate counties known as the “Corridor of Shame.”
