Election results to be made official today

Oconee’s election commissioners gather this morning in Walhalla to make official the results of voting in Tuesday’s General Election. The commissioners are scheduled to meet at 11 o’clock in county government’s Pine Street office complex in Walhalla. The so far unofficial winner of the District One seat for Oconee County Council, Edda Cammick, carried 94.5% of the vote, with nearly 5.5% of the votes cast in her race having gone to write-ins. Joy Scharich, elections director, said yesterday that some 200 of the 278 write-ins went to Cammick’s June primary opponent, Paul Corbeil. Oconeeans used the write-in method to make known their preferences in other contests as well. But Scharich says her office has decided not to announce those write-ins. She said many of them were “vulgar.”
