Elementary principal appointed

Marie Lisa Simmons Oconee School District announced the selection today of a new elementary school principal in Seneca. The county trustees have accepted Marie Simmons, current principal at Tamassee-Salem Elementary School, as the new principal of Blue Ridge Elementary School. Simmons’ hiring is effective July 1. Of her 15 years’ experience as a teacher and administrator, Simmons spent four of the years teaching in Title One schools, schools populated by students of low income families. At Blue Ridge, Simmons succeeds Idasa Cobb who resigned last month following her arrest on the charges of failure of certain persons to report child abuse or neglect.
