Escobar banned for 3 games

September 19, 2012

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Yunel Escobar has been suspended for three games without pay for writing a vulgar Spanish slur on the black strips under his eyes. A Spanish professor told The Toronto Star that the phrase can be interpreted in several negative ways, not all of them with a homophobic slant. Escobar told reporters it was “just a joke.” Escobar also was ordered to undergo sensitivity training.
