Evaluating Thorsland’s first year

How well has Dr. Michael Thorsland acquitted himself in his first year as Oconee County Superintendent of Education? The board of trustees intends to evaluate Thorsland during a meeting Saturday in the conference room at Walhalla Middle School. The evaluation is planned as a closed-door session. When selected a year ago to succeed the retired Mike Lucas, Thorsland received a three-year contract that compensates him at the rate of $135 thousand a year. Other benefits of his agreement include an annual contribution to an annuity program in the amount of 17%, or about $23 thousand. His agreement includes the stipulation that he and the board meet at least once a year to establish district goals and objectives for the following new year.
