Ex-wife accuses Sanford of trespassing

Former South Carolina Republican Governor Mark Sanford, who’s currently the GOP nominee for the U.S. House seat he used to hold, has been accused of trespassing by his ex-wife, Jenny Sanford. According to court documents obtained by the Associated Press, Sanford must appear in court to answer the charges two days after the May 7th election, in which he’s going up against Democratic nominee Elizabeth Colbert Busch. The complaint says Jenny Sanford confronted her ex-husband as he was leaving her South Carolina home on February 3rd through a rear door, using his cell phone for a flashlight. Her attorney filed the complaint the next day. According to the couple’s 2010 divorce settlement, neither may enter the other’s home without permission. Jenny Sanford confirmed the complaint was real and told AP, “I am doing my best not to get in the way of his race. I want him to sink or swim on his own. For the sake of my children I’m trying my best not to get in the way, but he makes things difficult for me when he does things like trespassing.” The former couple have four children together. The two divorced and Sanford’s political career was derailed when he confessed to an extramarital affair in 2009 after disappearing from the state for days while his staffers told people he was hiking the Appalachian Trail. He is now engaged to the Argentinean women he was having the affair with, Maria Belen Chapur.
