Expanded pre-kindergarten program

Parents of Oconee 4-year olds are finding out this week if there’s room in the county school district’s expanded program this year for pre-kindergarten. Schools cannot accept every student who went through screening. Nevertheless, Oconee expects to accommodate as many as 320 of the county’s 4-year olds. “We’re very excited about that,” says Ginger Hopkins, assistant superintendent for instruction. Additional funding, however, will allow certain private settings, such as day cares and churches, to offer K-4 programs. Two of those have been identified to 96.3/WGOG NEWS as Upstate Kids in West Union and Cambridge Child Development Center in Seneca.
