Expecting large turnout Saturday

The office of Oconee Veterans Affairs has an idea of how many service men and women from the Second World War remain survivors today in Oconee County, but no idea of how many survive from a later war in a small country 10 thousand miles away. Nevertheless, V-A Officer Jerry Dyar expects a large turnout in Seneca Saturday of Vietnam era veterans. They will make up the crowd for the county’s first 50th year observance of the Vietnam War. In speaking to 96.3/WGOG NEWS of the Vietnam veterans, “We are proud of the commitment that you made because our country asked you to make that commitment. Not necessarily that it was the right thing to do or the wrong thing to do, which the veterans didn’t have any part in that decision-making process there. But you were there, and you did what your country asked you to do…,” Dyar said. Saturday’s ceremony begins at 2 o’clock at the Gignilliat CommunityCenter.
