Explorers are farm team for Walhalla FD

In young people, the Walhalla fire chief sees fire fighting’s future. That’s why Chief Doug Kelley these days is enthusiastic about his department’s explorers post. A recent school visit produced 32 applicants for the Walhalla Fire Department’s Explorers Post. And, if just six of those youngsters actually follow through, Kelley will be pleased. He told the mayor and city council this week that the post is ideal for helping teach the young about fire danger. It serves as a dual purpose of whetting a young person’s interest in possibly considering fire fighting a career—whether as a paid fire fighter or a volunteer.
