Exploring the jail options

A meeting next week between Walhalla and Oconee County officials will take up the county’s latest proposal for a new jail in the County Seat. Mayor Danny Edwards calls it a meeting to explore options, but the mayor prefers to say little else about it beforehand. 96.3/WGOG NEWS has learned Tuesday’s meeting will involve the mayor and the city attorney, Julian Stoudemire. Representing the county: County Attorney Tom Martin and County Administrator Scott Moulder. Sheriff Mike Crenshaw would like property to the Agricultural Building side of the LEC to be the jail location. The denial of a re-zoning application in 2011 eliminated another potential jail location on the opposite side of the LEC. Tuesday’s meeting is expected to address what part zoning, if any, would play on the new preferred location.
