Faith-based group receives approval!

Walhalla-based Christ Central Ministries will be allowed a pilot program to use the current OconeeCounty jail once the new jail opens next door.  Sheriff Mike Crenshaw made the announcement in a 96.3/WGOG NEWS interview in which he said CCM’s plans to help ex-prisoners will be available for others in the county with problems, such as drug addiction.  The cost of maintaining the facility, Crenshaw says, will be partially offset by the County Council’s agreement for the county to pay for utilities during the first year.  CCM will be responsible for the costs of any upgrades, which it needs to carry out its programs.  In the interview, Crenshaw talks about how CCM’s plans can help lower the numbers of repeat violators who take up jail space and cost the county to keep them up.  The jail facilities, both new and old, are in the midst of a Walhalla residential neighborhood, and Crenshaw also addresses how safety to the public will be emphasized.  His comments are airing today on 96.3/WGOG NEWS.
