Farmers market opens in the morning

In a large field across from the Oconee County offices of Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative, the first farmers market will open for the season at 8 o’clock tomorrow morning. This Oconee County-wide market is called Foothills Heritage Market and is located at 178 Hayfield Road, on property owned by Sam Thrift. At tomorrow’s opening, fresh produce won’t be all that’s available. They’ll have a bluegrass band, children’s face-painting, other children’s activities, artists from the Blue Ridge Arts Center, coffee and pastries. After two seasons, the Fair Play Farmers Market will not be in operation this year. According to the Voice of Southern Oconee, Kelley Ryan is to be commended for her work to organize and run the Fair Play market.
