Felon in possession of firearm

The acting U-S Attorney in South Carolina, Beth Drake, has announced that a Rabun County, Georgia man has been sentenced in federal court at Anderson for felon in possession of a firearm.  Judge Tim Cain ordered Mark Anthony Stone to serve a term of 71 months in prison.  Stone is 32 years old.  According to Drake’s announcement, law enforcement on June 29, 2015 tried to pull Stone over for speeding.  He fled.  A chase ensued in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.  Stone was arrested in Oconee County, but not before officers chased him on foot.  Inside the vehicle, according to the acting U-S Attorney, officers found a loaded .22-caliber rifle with a round in the chamber.  Because of prior convictions—including burglaries and aggravated assault—Stone was prohibited from carrying firearms at the time of his arrest.
