“FERC” OKs Mosquito Pt. for staging

Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has announced approval this week of a Duke Energy application to allow a new use for a Lake Keowee area not far from Oconee Nuclear Station. The FERC order allows three contractors and additional future contractors to lease about one and a third acres at Mosquito Point for use as a permanent staging area. The order apparently formalizes the use of Mosquito Point—by such companies as Kroeger Marine and Lakeside Barge. Oconee County Councilman Wayne McCall says that’s a good move, considering Mosquito Point is a mid-way point on a large expanse of water. The county has interest nearby in designating an area from which to stage emergency rescues and watercraft.
