FERC’s comments not seen as game-changer

“Potential conflicts” that a federal agency found associated with a draft license application for the Keowee-Toxaway Hydroelectric Project are not viewed today as serious impediments to Duke Energy’s quest to get the project re-licensed. Nevertheless, a Duke spokeswoman, Lisa Hoffman, indicates her company is studying those concerns and intends to address them. Those concerns are raised this week in a letter from David Turner of the Division of Hydropower Licensing at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to Jennifer Huff, the Keowee-Toxaway relicensing project manager for Duke Energy. Hoffman re-iterates that her company remains committed to meeting an August deadline to file its official application to relicense the project for between 30 and 50 years.
