Final walk-thru at new jail late next month

Sheriff Mike Crenshaw says no major issues or concerns cropped up during an inspection Wednesday of Oconee’s new $16.2 million jail. The contractor is going thru a punch list and doing some touch-up painting. State Department of Corrections’ officials return late next month for what’s called a final walk-thru. Crenshaw says that means the actual opening is now targeted for August 1. He said, “We will continue training in the new building with an anticipated opening August 1st if all goes well. SCDC has to see and approve our operating policies and procedures for the facility also.”
