Finding meaningful work for the returning vet

America’s military heroes on foreign shores sadly often have trouble finding meaningful work when they return to their homeland. Two representatives of a Washington area-based program that tries to connect returning military personnel with corporate America spoke at today’s Seneca Rotary Club meeting and urged the Rotarians to use their influence to help. Jim Hanvey and Todd Sides are part of Working Warrior Nation. According to Sides, part of what his program strives to do is to create products for the marketplace. Boxes are one specific success product made by veterans. All boxes bought the government, Sides said, are made by a veteran. Today’s speakers illustrated with examples how hard it is for a returning vet to find work and said the number one unemployed segment of America’s workforce is an 18 to 26 year old African-American female veteran.
