Fire burned unoccupied house

The determination of why fire burned through an old farm house near Walhalla is part of an investigation today that includes an officer of the Oconee Sheriff’s Office.  A Walhalla fire fighter told 96.3/WGOG NEWS the fire that heavily damaged 1757 Pickens Highway started in the back of the unoccupied house.  The fire fighters responded shortly after 7 this morning to a location about one mile north of the high school.  By mid day, the fire department had not released the identity of the property owner.
