Fire protection tio be taught tonight at State Park

The South Carolina Forestry Commission  holds a “Firewise” meeting at 6:30 tonight at Oconee State Park to help the  community learn more about protecting their homes from wildfire and how controlled burns can help. Firefighter professionals will lead tonite’s program and discuss how to prepare structures and landscapes to resist wildfire, especially in  drought conditions; the best ways to evacuate when threatened by wildfire, and how controlled burns decrease the risk of wildfire. The session is part of a long-range plan of the Fire Learning Network, a collaboration between several land-management organizations that are planning controlled burns this winter in Upstate South Carolina.  Oconee State Park is located at 624 State Park Road in Mountain Rest.  The meeting will be held in the park office / meeting room.  For more information about the meeting, contact the park at 864-638-5353.
