Fire sprinkler demonstration Sunday

Seven fire deaths across the Upstate in five weeks demonstrate what the Oconee fire chief calls the need to get the word out about the hazards of home fires. On Sunday at Lowe’s near Seneca, Oconee Emergency Services, the S.C. Fire and Safety Association, along with Lowe’s, will conduct a residential fire sprinkler demonstration. According to Oconee Fire Chief Charlie King, the event will include live fire burns and demonstrate the importance of sprinkler systems in the home. Lowe’s is donating smoke detectors and batteries free to the public on Sunday. On Tuesday, Neville Hardware at West Union will also offer detectors and batteries at no charge.
