First half of 2017 to be key for region’s drought

At Walhalla, rain drops on car windshields did not register on the Official Weather Observer’s report for the past 24 hours.  The prominent weather condition this morning is fog that is causing problems for drivers.   But, according to the Army Corps of Engineers, the first six months of 2017 are going to determine how much worse the drought is going to get.  Sustained rains are what are needed, according to the corps’ Savannah District.  Lake Hartwell’s rain deficit is 26 inches.
