First round co-leaders at Mountain Lakes Classic

Ted Smith and Sunny Kim carded 3-under 68s in the first round of the Mountain Lakes Classic at Seneca and finished the day tied atop the leader board in the $150 thousand event. The tourney is being presented by Mountain Lakes Convention and Visitors Bureau. Smith, a former University of North Carolina standout from Orlando, Florida, recorded six birdies and three bogeys on the par-71 layout. Kim, a South Korea native, appeared to be headed toward the bottom of the leader board, but he eagled No. 10 and added four birdies and a bogey en route to a 5-under 30 on the inward side. Second round play is underway today, and the public is invited to Cross Creek Plantation to watch at no charge.
