Fitting tribute to Central’s history

A railroad museum is a fitting tribute to the Pickens County town of Central. The town got its name because of its location on the halfway point of the railroad between Atlanta and Charlotte. Central’s railroad history is now on display, and the Central Railway Museum is open to the public every Saturday from 9 a-m to noon. Much of the museum space is devoted to a large HO scale layout, re-creating railroading in the western Carolinas and Georgia in the late 1950s. It was an era where steam trains transitioned to diesel locomotion. The museum walls are lined with photos, maps, timetables and other memorabilia.
