Food, fellowship, music ring tills for Oconee Democrats

Veteran South Carolina Congressman James Clyburn has begun raising money to wage his own re-election campaign next year. But last evening the 6th District Democrat from Columbia concentrated on raising money for the Oconee Democratic Party. Clyburn came to South Cove Park to keynote the county party’s annual picnic and fundraiser. In spite of 90 degree temperatures, local Democrats gathered under the park pavilion and engaged in fellowship, sampled chicken and other foods, and were entertained by a six-piece band. Clyburn intended last night to talk about next year’s primary elections, but said he was especially looking forward to a question-answer period with the Oconee Democrats. The first set of primaries next year in South Carolina will be the first-in-the-South Presidential primaries in February, one week apart.
