Forum to address tainted fish

A state health official will address the problem of mercury-impaired fish during a public forum this week in Oconee County.  The public is invited to the event by FOLKS—Friends of Lake Keowee.  The event will be 6:30 Thursday night at Duke’s World of Energy, with refreshments served at 6 o’clock.  James Glover of the SC Dept. of Health and Environmental Control will discuss how mercury and other impairments are determined and imposed. And he will give hints on preparing and eating both largemouth and spotted bass from Lake Keowee. Ben Turetsky, executive director of FOLKS, says, “Although there has been an impairment on Lake Jocassee for many years, Lake Keowee has been added to the DHEC fish Advisory list. Dr. Glover will discuss how impairments are determined and DHEC also provides hints on how many fish meals a week one should eat.”
