Fraud risk for ex-WestPoint Stevens workers

Individuals who worked for the former WestPoint Stevens plant at Seneca are being advised to check their credit reports and report any fraudulent activity to the Oconee Sheriff’s Office. Investigators are working a case of identity fraud and have determined there’s a chance that personnel files from the West Point Seneca plant may have been stolen and used to open fraudulent accounts. The Seneca plant at Utica closed about 15 years ago after nearly 100 years of operations. Those people who may be affected are being asked by the Sheriff’s Office to get a free credit report thru annualcreditreport.com and request a copy from one of the credit reporting agencies. If you find that you are a victim of fraud, you are asked to call the Sheriff’s Office and file a report (864/638-4111).
