FRIDAY SPORTS: HS Football concludes tonight; Clemson hoops to hold exhibition; College football

November 1, 2013

WGOG’s 2013 high school football broadcast season wraps up Friday night with the conference rivalry game between West-Oak and Walhalla. Jimmy Watt and Kris Butts will begin coverage at 7:00 PM from Warrior Field in Westminster, with kick-off set for 7:30 PM. Elsewhere Friday, Seneca is at top-ranked Daniel. Pendleton is home against Landrum.

The Clemson men’s basketball team will hold its only public exhibition Friday when it plays host to Francis Marion University of Division II. The contest will be held at 7:00 PM in Littlejohn Coliseum, and admission will be free to the event.

College football Saturday  on WGOG will feature the Furman Paladins taking on Georgia Southern in Statesboro. That one kicks off at 2:00 PM. South Carolina has a noon-hour kick-off against Mississippi State. Clemson is in Charlottesville to take on Virginia at 3:30. Georgia and Florida battle it out in Jacksonville. And, on ABC in primetime, #3 Florida State takes on #7 Miami in an ACC battle.

The Miami Dolphins topped the Cincinnati Bengals 22-20 at home Thursday night, getting the win on a safety in overtime. The winning two points came with 6:38 left in OT when Miami’s Cameron Wake sacked Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton, who’d retreated to the goal line on third-and-10 from the eight-yard-line. It was just the third overtime safety in NFL history. That winning sack came after Miami had gotten the game to overtime with a tying 44-yard field goal by Caleb Sturgis with just 11 seconds left in regulation. Miami quarterback Ryan Tannehill was 20 of 28 for 208 yards, while Dalton went 32 of 53 for 338 yards.
