Friendship fire fighters involved in legal dispute

A lawsuit has been filed in OconeeCounty in an attempt to clear up a challenge as to who is the rightful owner of property across the highway from one of the county’s volunteer fire stations.  The Friendship Fire Department near Seneca contends it is the legal owner.  Attorney Michael Smith, representing the fire department, has confirmed the filing of an action to quiet the title.  The action names three defendants:  Associates Financial Services of South Carolina, Household Finance Corporation II, and R&M Investments of Oconee LLC.  The plaintiff seeks a judge’s ruling declaring Friendship Fire Department the sole owner of the property at question—free from mortgage liens along with a declaration that the defendants have no interest in the property.
