Gamecocks Head Home from Hoover

For the second consecutive day, 12th ranked South Carolina rallied from three runs down, however top ranked Vanderbilt loaded the bases in the 10th inning and with one out a RBI base hit from Conrad Gregor lifted the Commodores to a 4-3 win over the Gamecocks in an elimination game on Thursday afternoon at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium. South Carolina now awaits word on the announcement of the NCAA Division I Championship 64-team field that will be announced on Monday at Noon eastern on ESPNU.

Elsewhere, Tyler Avera sprinted home on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth inning to give Georgia Southern the lead, capping a two-out, bases empty rally, and the Eagles held on to beat Furman, 3-2, in Southern Conference Tournament action Thursday evening at Fluor Field. Furman (32-24) will now play Elon on Friday at 7:00 p.m. in a loser’s bracket game, with the winner to face Georgia Southern (27-30) on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
