Goats to chew down unwanted vegetation

Clemson researchers and campus facilities managers have teamed up to rid a section of unwanted vegetation along a creek near the Lightsey Bridge apartments. They are employing goats which are being fenced in along a section of Hunnicutt Creek to feed on the invasive weeds along the creek bank and upland area—clearing the way for native plants. The goats will be confined by an electric fence near the pedestrian bridge to the apartments. Using animals to chew down the vegetation can prove less expensive and more environmentally friendly than applying manpower, machines or chemicals.
