Golf cart travel regulated by law

Golf carts are now an acceptable way for getting from one place to another, but their use is regulated by South Carolina law.  At Clemson University, where many streets are clogged by motorized traffic during football weekends, many fans find golf carts a good way to get around.  The City of Clemson recognizes that golf cart use shortens waits, but reminds everyone that golf carts on public roadways are regulated by the South Carolina Code of Laws under 56-2-105.  Here are some tips to stay safe:  Drive on the right side of the road, as close to the white line as possible.  Stop for all stop signs and red lights, and ensure that the roadway is clear before proceeding.  When approaching a crosswalk, remember pedestrians have the right of way.  Use hand signals to alert other traffic of your turns and stops.  You can only operate a golf cart on a public road during daylight hours, and when the posted speed limit is 35 miles an hour or less.
