Governance discussion still ongoing

The Greenville Health System says it wants to remain a public, not-for-profit organization but one that could become part of a larger multi-regional not-for-profit health system.  GHS’s announcement states, “The proposal would maintain the current Greenville operations as a preeminent safety-net healthcare system but also give it the flexibility to explore partnerships with other governmental, not-for-profit entities that are currently not feasible under its current government status.”  Under the option now being discussed, GHS would be governed by a newly-created private, not-for-profit entity that would provide oversight.  Mike Riordan, GHS CEO, says leading healthcare institutions in the U-S are organized similarly.  They include Geisinger Health, Intertmountain Health, Banner Health and Novant Health.
