Government service agenecy opposes transmission line

The board of directors for a regional government service agency based at Greenville, with Oconee County representation, is charged with promoting prosperity, community development, and quality of life within the region.  Yet when it comes to the area’s major electric power supplier, the board of the South Carolina Appalachian Council of Governments has gone on record against Duke Energy’s controversial plan to build the Foothills Transmission Line project across the upper part of the Upstate counties.  At a meeting Friday, all board members casting votes came out against the project—including Oconee’s three representatives:  Reg Dexter, Ernest Riley, and Bob Winchester.  That opposition shows up in a letter the A-COG Board will send to the state Public Service Commission, which regulates public utilities.
