Grant request comes thru for Westminster

An outside government grant will allow Westminster to upgrade transformers in the city’s electrical system.  Coming Westminster’s way is a grant of $81,250 from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.  “This project is part of our effort to upgrade all of our old 2,400 volt transformers so we can switch to the more efficient 7,200 V circuit,” according to Jeff Lord, city administrator.  By doing this we will be able to reduce energy loss by 5-10% on the old circuit that serves the majority of the system.”  The extra energy required for the step down to 2,400 volts adds to the power which the city must buy and, in turn, its customers must pay.  Westminster held a recent hearing to announce the grant application.
