Green light letter awaited from the state

The fire alarm and smoke suppression system are said to have functioned properly during an inspection Wednesday at the new Oconee Jail.  Sheriff Mike Crenshaw said today that inspectors were tight-lipped about what they saw, but he expects a letter soon from the state Department of Corrections in Columbia.  And once the permission is finally granted to open the jail, Crenshaw will schedule a small ribbon cutting and offer public tours that will allow regular citizens to experience what it’s like to be locked up…and then let go.
