Groundbreaking for Twelve Mile Recreation Park

The public has an invitation this morning to a groundbreaking event for Twelve Mile Recreation Park at Cateechee Beach in Pickens County.  A ceremony is planned for 11 o’clock at 1110 Norris Highway in Central.  For 20 years, the Twelve Mile River has been part of the Sangamo Weston/Lake Hartwell Superfund site.  During this time, according to a Pickens County announcement, the river has been subject to intense environmental study and site restoration.  The end game is to allow the public to re-access the river and property.  Two parks are planned:  Norris Highway Park and the Madden Bridge Park.  The Norris Park will be designed for fishing, hiking, picnic and whitewater paddling.  Madden Park is to offer identical recreation and a take-out point and flatwater padding access to the Twelve Mile arm of Lake Hartwell.
