Groundbreaking Thursday

Groundbreaking takes place Thursday morning in Oconee County for what promoters believe will be the finest 9-11 memorial in the Southeast. Everyone is invited for the 10 a-m ceremony at the 1.2 acre memorial site on n. highway 11, at the northeast edge of the new Walhalla High School property. The 45-minute ceremony will feature comments by a veterans’ representative, by State Representative Bill Whitmire, and by Christine Tedesco of Clemson-based RSCT architecture and design. The Seneca High Madrigal Choir will provide music. Those planning to attend should park on the east side of highway 11 in the grass area just south of the Falcon’s Lair golf community. First responders from Picket Post/Camp Oak Fire Department will assist with parking. Fundraising to build the memorial is underway, and promoters hope to dedicate the project on September 11, 2015.
